Organizational Psychology at Park University

Psychology is an industry with many specialties. One area of emphasis available at Park University is organizational and industrial psychology. The university offers a master’s degree, as well as an Industrial and Organizational Psychology Certificate. The certificate program requires that students complete 15 hours of study. The master’s degree requires completion of 33 credits.
For the certificate program, students may complete their studies online or at the Parkville, Missouri campus. They can also complete it at any one of more than 40 campus centers around the country. The graduate degree is available online. Students may enroll on a part-time or full-time basis. Students who pursue their graduate degree with full-time enrollment can expect to graduate in four semesters. Part-time enrollment usually means graduation within six semesters.

For those who enroll in the Industrial-Organizational Psychology Certificate, program administrators require that students maintain a GPA of 2.5 for the 15 credit hours required to complete the program. Classes required to earn the certificate include:

- Tests and Measurements
- Statistics for Social Sciences
- Industrial and Organizational Psychology
- Experimental Psychology
Students who enroll in the Master of Arts in Industrial-Organizational Psychology will need to maintain a 3.0 GPA over the course of the 33 credit hours required to graduate. Classes students will take include:
- Introduction to Social Justice
- Applied Research Methods
- Critical Analysis I
- Critical Analysis II
Students will also take:
- Personnel Psychology
- Organizational Dynamics and Ethics
- Training and Performance
To finish the program, students must complete an internship worth three credits. It will take place in the field with an industrial-organizational psychologist. Students must also pass a comprehensive exam at the conclusion of their degree program. It must demonstrate an understanding of topics such as how compensation impacts job satisfaction, as well as the methods that may be used to improve job performance and motivation.
About Park University
Park University is a private university in Parkville, Missouri. It has operated since 1875. Originally known as Park College, the school was built on land donated by George S. Park. The original intent of the college was to offer students tuition-free enrollment if they worked each day in the college’s printing plant, electrical shop, or farm. The first class of students numbered 17. The first graduating class included five women. Today, the university has more than 11,000 students enrolled.
The school’s official colors are gold and burgundy, but the university refers to them as canary and wine. Students have the opportunity to participate in many sports teams including:
- soccer
- basketball
- volleyball
- golf, among others
The university belongs to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Games are played in the American Midwest Conference.
Park University Accreditation Details
Park University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, which is an organization recognized by the Department of Education that accredits schools throughout the Midwest. Students are eligible to receive funds from the federal student loan program when they attend classes at a regionally accredited institution of higher learning. Programs offered in the university have earned further accreditation from specialized agencies.
For example, the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs has accredited the Master of Healthcare Administration Program offered by the School of Business. The teacher education and other school professional programs have been approved by the State of Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The Bachelor of Social Work and the Master of Social Work have both been fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Park University Application Requirements
Park University requires that students submit their applications online. Students must also submit an application fee of $35. They must have their official transcripts sent from high school and all previously attended institutions of higher learning. Applications must reach the university by April 1st if they want to attend classes in the fall or by October 1st if they want to enroll in the spring.
Students aren’t eligible for financial aid until the college receives an official transcript or proof of graduation. Applicants who submit an unofficial copy of their school transcripts may be granted provisional acceptance until the university receives their official transcripts. Students must also take an English and math assessment test to measure their basic skills in these areas. Students must be proficient in English to attend the university.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition for students at Park University varies based on the campus a student attends and the student’s status as a:
- civilian
- military student
- federal employee
The general rate for undergraduate students at the Parkville campus, the Gilbert campus, or the university’s online classes is $415 per credit hour. Students may receive a discount on their tuition if they are active-duty military, a reservist or member of the National Guard, or are a federal employee.
For graduate students, the rate is $580 per credit hour unless the student qualifies for a tuition discount based on military or federal employee status. Tuition discounts will reduce the amount of tuition to somewhere between $420 and $510 per credit hour. Students can live on campus and will pay additional fees associated with room and board charges.
After applying to Park University, students will submit a second application called the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which will allow students to qualify for financial aid like federal student loans and grants. Students will receive a communication about their financial aid award via email after the university has received all necessary information from the student’s FAFSA application.
Students interested in scholarships must submit an additional application. The university offers more than 100 endowed scholarships to students with applications being taken for those awards from October 1st through February 15th. Freshmen with a GPA of at least 3.5 may qualify for the $5,000 founders scholarship when they apply to Park University and submit an additional scholarship application.
