Four UNO Programs About Organizational Psych
The University of Nebraska-Omaha appears in our ranking of the 10 Most Affordable Top-Ranked Master’s in Industrial-Organizational Psychology.
In Arts & Sciences Hall, the Department of Psychology grants a BA/BS Industrial-Organizational Psychology Concentration for University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks called to use behavior principles in employee development means and better workplace environments. Chaired by Dr. Brigette Ryalls, the 120-credit, four-year degree offers opportunities like the MAUI-Utrecht Exchange, Psi Chi Chapter, and Sensory System Development Lab Program.
Each Fall, the MS in Industrial-Organizational Psychology admits cohorts of 25-35 under Dr. Roni Reiter-Palmon for a 36-credit, 24-month applied curriculum linked to Experis, CSG International, Silverstone Group, Allstate, and more. The 36-credit MA in Industrial-Organizational Psychology directed by Dr. Juan Casas instead takes three years of 9000-level, research-based courses, such as Performance Appraisal, and thesis work in the Center for Meeting Effectiveness.
Headed by Dr. Joseph Brown, a 2006 Excellence in Teaching Award recipient, the Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology has a 54-credit, post-master’s plan with two practica, SIOP membership, and dissertation research. There’s also a 15-credit Human Resources & Training Certificate available.
About the University of Nebraska-Omaha
The University of Nebraska-Omaha originated in 1908 when the Presbyterian Theological Seminary welcomed an inaugural Omaha University class of 26 to the five-story Redick Mansion. In 1910, Lillian Maul donated $14,000 for the adjacent building of Jacobs Hall. Two decades later, it was publicly acquired by the municipality. In 1938, it relocated to today’s 154-acre North Dodge campus in Forbes’ 51st best city for education. In 1951, the University of Omaha made history by starting the Silver Wings organization.
In 1968, Governor Norbert Tiemann approved legislation adding it to the University of Nebraska system. Renamed that Fall, UNO launched the 700,000-volume Dr. CC and Mabel Criss Library in 1976.
UNO claimed the 2014 Presidential Award for Economic Opportunity. In 2018, Dr. Roni Reiter-Palmon won Omaha’s first Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology Fellowship.

University of Nebraska-Omaha Accreditation Details
On August 1, 2021, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) has scheduled the next assurance review at the University of Nebraska-Omaha to keep the Level VI accreditation valid through 2028 under its seventh president, Dr. Hank M. Bounds, who received the NAGC David W. Berlin Gifted Children Advocacy Award. Located 472 miles east via Interstate 88 on Chicago’s La Salle Street, this giant 19-state Great Plains Region accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate UNO’s 80 bachelor’s, 52 master’s, eight doctoral, and 31 doctoral offerings. Since 1995, the College of Arts & Sciences has been approved by the National Association for School Psychologists (NASP). Note the doctorate isn’t accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) though.
University of Nebraska-Omaha Application Requirements
Attending the University of Nebraska-Omaha is labeled “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because 3,507 of the 4,955 Fall 2017 applicants were selected for 71 percent acceptance. First-year Mavericks wanting the Psychology BA/BS in Industrial-Organizational Psychology must fulfill the 16 academic core prerequisites in high school. Freshmen age 18 and older with a GED will be reviewed. Performance standards require a 20 ACT or equivalent score. If lower, students must rank in the upper 50th percentile of their classes. On average, College of Arts & Sciences majors present a 3.40 GPA and 23 ACT mark. Tests are optional for transfers with 24+ undergrad credits graded at least “C.” Omaha’s foreign students from 115 countries exceed the 6.0 IELTS or 500 TOEFL requirement. MA/MS in Industrial-Organizational Psychology cohorts must have minimum 3.0 GPAs during baccalaureate study. Mandatory prep courses include Research Methods, Behavioral Science, and Statistics. The mean GRE scores are 157 Quantitative, 157 Verbal, and 3.75 Analytical Writing. The Ph.D. prefers master’s grads with 36+ relevant graduate credits and GPAs above 3.3.
The University of Nebraska-Omaha has final undergrad deadlines of August 1st for Fall, December 1st for Spring, and July 1st for Summer. December 15th is the priority date for financial aid. The Department of Psychology only considers MA/MS and PhD candidates until January 5th yearly. Human Resources & Training Certificate entrants must file by June 1st or November 1st. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, the University of Nebraska-Omaha charged in-state Psychology BA/BS majors $7,980 annually full-time. Non-resident undergrads paid $21,244 per year. The Metropolitan Advantage Program price for 11 Iowa counties was lower at $11,092. Taking under 12 credits cost $223 to $699 apiece. Living at the Douglas County campus’ dorms like Maverick Village added $6,500 to $9,950 yearly. Standard meal plans for Scott Dining Hall were $1,699 per term. UNO budgeted $1,162 for books, $2,478 for personal expenses, and $1,276 for transport. Annual bachelor’s attendance equaled about $22,816 in-state, $25,928 in metro, and $36,080 out-of-state. The Department of Psychology has MA/MS and PhD tuition of $7,138 for Nebraskans and $16,020 for non-residents each year. Per credit rates range from $299 to $777.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Office of Financial Support in Eppley Administration Hall Room 103 gets 62 percent of UNO Mavericks median aid of $8,304 for $64.71 million total. Psychology funds include the Robbins Family Scholarship, Mary E. Flannigan Memorial Service Scholarship, Frank Bellinghiere Academic Excellence Scholarship, Next Generation Leadership Scholarship, R.H. Davis Memorial Scholarship, Horace Wu & Kate King Scholarship, Gerbracht Scholarship, and Dodson-Bloom Abroad Scholarship. The Chancellor’s Scholarship gifts $3,000 to freshmen meeting the 28 ACT and 3.5 GPA minimum. The $15,000 Phillip Schrager Scholarship Program for Student Leaders upholds a March 1st deadline yearly. MA and Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology students pay tuition through 20-hour graduate assistantships. FAFSA applications coded 002554 determine federal aid, including Pell Grant, eligibility. Fellow Nebraskans earn the College Access Challenge Grant, Opportunity Grant, and National Guard Tuition Grant. The SIOP also has external programs like the Mary Tenopyr Scholarship.
