Worcester State University had its beginnings in 1874 when it opened as a school for training teachers. The college’s transition to a school offering degrees in multiple concentrations began in 1963. Payscale ranks the college as a Best ROI University. The Landmark gives the college a Reader’s Choice Award as the Best Place to Attend a Local College nine times between 2009 and 2017. WCVB Channel 5 in Boston ranked the university as the seventh least-expensive college in New England. It used 2014 data from the U.S. Department of Education to support its ranking. In 2016 and 2017, Telegram & Gazette ranked the school as Best College or University in Central Massachusetts according to a Reader’s Poll. Worcester State University Accreditation Details
Worcester State University enjoys regional accreditation from the New England Commission on Higher Education, Inc. This accrediting agency covers schools in the six-state New England Region. Regional certification lasts for 10 years, and the accreditation was most recently renewed in 2012. Standards at the school meet or exceed the requirements that the agency has set. One of the other outcomes of this accreditation for students is that it helps qualify the school for federal financial aid funding. It makes education more accessible to all students regardless of income level.
The Education Specialist in School Psychology program features accreditation from the National Association of School Psychologists Accreditation Board. Worcester State University Application Requirements
High school transcripts are of vital importance for first-year undergraduate students. SAT or ACT scores are only necessary for:
- homeschooled students
- international applicants
- those whose transcripts have narratives instead of grades
- merit scholarship applicants
Students who speak English as a second language will need an SAT, ACT, or TOEFL scores.
Students are eligible for transfer from community colleges or other universities under the following criteria:
- A minimum 2.5 GPA and 12-23 transfer credits
- A minimum 2.0 GPA, up to 23 transfer credits, and SAT or ACT scores and high school grades
- A minimum 2.0 GPA and 24 or more transfer credits
Undergraduate applicants can complete an application online, along with a non-refundable $50 application fee. This fee is waived if applicants apply in the Admissions Office on-campus. Transcripts and testing scores will need to be received.
Graduate students will need to provide transcripts for all undergraduate work completed, as well as any transfer credit for other coursework completed at the graduate level. Two letters of recommendation and a GMAT score are necessary.

Tuition and Financial Aid
