Three TAMU Degrees for Organizational Psych

Texas A&M University appears in our ranking of the Top 10 Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology.

The College of Liberal Arts awards a B.A./B.S. in Psychology with four skill-based certificates, including Work & Organizations. Texas A&M University undergrads learn how interpersonal behaviors affect employee environments. The 120-credit degree blends College Station courses like Cross-Cultural Psychology with an eight-week Germany trip and Psi Chi events.

The M.S. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology admits Fall cohorts of 10-15 who apply behavioral principles for solving human resources challenges. The 33-credit, non-thesis practitioner program fills 16 months with courses like Personnel Psychology, the Colloquium Series, and full-time internships from Dallas to San Antonio.  The Ph.D. Psychological & Brain Sciences has five specializations, such as Industrial/Organizational, for advanced scientist-practitioner training on human wellness. Student/teacher ratio is 2:1. Since 2000, the 94-credit, APA-accredited plan has integrated dissertation research in the Employment Lab, internships like IBM Kenexa, and comprehensive exams.

Texas A&M University originated on April 17, 1871, when the State Legislature gave $75,000 from the Morrill Land-Grant Act to fund its first public school. In October 1876, an inaugural class of 40 arrived at its Great Western Cattle Trail campus donated by Brazos County. Known for its Corps of Cadets, it had sent the largest percentage of students to World War I by 1918. Six years later, it developed the Graduate School and started graduating women. In 1940, it awarded its first Ph.D. in College Station. It officially became Texas A&M University in 1963. Desegregated in 1965, Texas A&M became one of the first four sea-grant schools on September 17, 1971.

In 1984, its Psychological & Brain Sciences Department was established. Generating $905 million in research, Texas A&M University now has 3,750 faculty teaching 69,367 students from 105 countries with 91 percent retention. The U.S. News & World Report ranked TAMU:

Texas A&M University Accreditation Details

Texas A&M University  is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). This trusted 11-state Gulf Coast Region accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to continually evaluate TAMU’s over 130 undergrad and 268 post-grad offerings. Particularly, Texas A&M was reaffirmed by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) on May 1, 2018. The American Psychological Association (APA) Commission on Accreditation last approved the College of Liberal Arts’ Ph.D. on April 8, 2015 too.

Texas A&M University Application Requirements

Admission to Texas A&M University is considered “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because 26,064 of the 37,191 Fall 2017 applicants were triumphant for 70 percent acceptance. First-year students seeking the B.A./B.S. in Psychology: Work & Organizations Certificate must finish secondary curricula with four years each of:

  • English
  • Math
  • Science

Texas high school grads ranking in the top 10 percent are automatically admitted. Others need a minimum 30 ACT composite with 27+ on English and Math. Likewise, SAT marks must rise above 620 on Math and 660 on Reading. The Class of 2021 presented an average 3.64 GPA in grades 9-12. Eligible transfers have GPAs above 2.5 in 24+ accredited, non-remedial college credits. The M.S. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology seeks relevant business or human services bachelor’s with minimum 3.0 GPAs. Median GRE marks are:

  • 155 Quantitative
  • 152 Verbal
  • 3.75 Analytical Writing

Doctoral candidates are only evaluated with GPAs over 3.5. Previous research work plus at least two years of experience are strongly preferred.

Texas A&M University has an October 15th Early Action and December 1st Regular Decision deadline for freshmen. B.A./B.S. in Psychology transfers apply until October 15th for Spring and March 1st for Fall entry. Non-U.S. residents must apply by August 1st and November 1st respectively. The M.S. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology has a firm March 1st deadline. Ph.D. cohorts apply from August 1st to December 1st yearly.

Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2019-20, Texas A&M University is billing in-state B.A/B.S. in Psychology majors $5,431 per term or $10,862 annually. Non-resident undergrad tuition will be $18,945 by semester or $37,890 each year. Studying part-time incurs $620 to $1,521 per credit. Living at the College Station campus’ dorms adds $2,662 to $5,423 each term. Meal plans for The Commons are $1,292 to $2,479 extra. TAMU budgets:

Annual bachelor’s attendance equals around $28,792 in-state and $56,812 out-of-state. The College of Liberal Arts will charge Texans $7,444 and non-residents $15,958 for annual graduate tuition. That’s roughly $413 to $886 per credit. Note the M.S. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology has a $3,500 semester fee.

The Office of Graduate Studies has research fellowships up to $30,000 for M.S. or Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology students. Filing FAFSA applications coded 003632 determines eligibility for:
