Three University of Illinois Paths to IOP Careers

University of Illinois appears in our ranking of the Top 10 Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology.

The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences offers 10 concentrations, such as Organizational Psychology, for its Psychology BSLAS Major. It  teaches University of Illinois students how to analyze people’s unique behavioral characteristics. The 120-credit bachelor’s blends courses like:

About the University of Illinois

The University of Illinois originated on March 2, 1868, when President John Milton Gregory welcomed an inaugural class of 77 to Urbana for the Illinois Industrial University. In 1885, it was renamed the University of Illinois for diversifying liberal arts instruction. Five years later, Dr. Charles De Garmo was hired as its first psychology professor. In 1892, Dr. William Krohn pioneered experiments in its new Psychological Laboratory.

The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences was formally founded in 1913. Fully accredited since 1914, the University of Illinois educated one-third of all Chinese immigrants in 1920. In 1970, the diversity advocate launched La Casa Cultural Latina. By 2003, the Department of Psychology was winning the APA Suinn Minority Achievement Award. University of Illinois Accreditation Details

University of Illinois is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) Specifically, the University of Illinois has been accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) Commission on Accreditation (CoA) since February 1, 1948. The Illinois Ph.D. was also the United States’ first accredited by the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) on November 12, 2009.

University of Illinois Application Requirements

Admission to the University of Illinois is classified “very difficult” by Peterson’s since only 20,716 of the 33,203 Fall 2017 applicants were okayed for competitive 62 percent acceptance. First-year students seeking the Psychology BSLAS with an Organizational Psychology Concentration must finish a high school or GED diploma. Consistent academic achievement is mandated in:

  • four English courses
  • three Math courses
  • two Social Studies courses
  • two Science courses

On average, freshmen present a 3.96 GPA. The middle 50 percent score between 27 and 33 on the ACT. The median SAT range is 1270 to 1480, excluding writing. College of Liberal Arts & Sciences transfers must carry 24+ accredited credits with minimum 3.0 GPAs. Preferred major prerequisites are:

  • Intro to Psych
  • Writing and Research
  • Statistics

The Honors Programs picks juniors who’ve completed at least Psychology 235 with GPAs over 3.5. Post-grad Department of Psychology cohorts must hold 3.0 GPAs or better in bachelor’s study. At least 15 credits of behavioral science courses, such as Experimental Psychology, are prerequisite. Accepted students achieve an average 3.79 GPA plus 162 Quantitative and 159 Verbal GRE score.

The University of Illinois has freshman deadlines of November 1st for Early Action and January 5th for Regular Decision. Psychology BSLAS transfers have until October 15th for Spring or March 1st for Fall. November 16th is the cutoff for Psychology Honors Program entrants. The Psychological Science MS has a March 15th deadline yearly. Hopeful PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology cohorts must apply before December 10th at Midnight.

Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2019-20, the University of Illinois will charge in-state Psychology BSLAS majors $8,105 each term or $16,210 annually. Non-resident undergrad tuition will be $16,676 by semester or $33,352 yearly. International students will pay $34,226 each year full-time. Living at the Champaign campus’ dorms adds $5,514 to $12,668 by year. Meal plans for Pennsylvania Avenue Dining Hall are $2,160 to $5,604. Illinois budgets $1,200 for books and $2,840 for miscellaneous expenses. Annual bachelor’s study equals around
